More importantly, when I say Ona Judge was enslaved by the Washingtons, it is very different from saying “Washington’s slave,” which makes that possession seem legitimate. The simplest explanation is that “enslaved” means that something was done to you, as opposed to being identified as a “slave” - a possession or piece of property.
